Our Transition Leaders are a dedicated group of Year 10 students who play an important role in welcoming and supporting our new Year 7 students as they begin their journey at high school.

Having experienced the transition to secondary school themselves, our Transition Leaders understand that starting high school can feel exciting but also a little daunting. They are there to help our Year 7 students feel confident, supported and part of the Springwood community from the very beginning.

Transition Leaders help Year 7 students find their way around the school, understand routines and navigate the many changes that come with starting secondary school. They offer guidance, encouragement and a friendly face when students may need a little extra reassurance.

Their role is also about helping our youngest students settle into high school life, build confidence and develop a sense of belonging. Whether it is helping someone find a classroom, answering questions about school life or simply being there to listen, our Transition Leaders are positive role models who help make the transition into Year 7 a successful and enjoyable experience.

We are incredibly proud of the responsibility our Year 10 students take on as Transition Leaders. Their kindness, maturity and willingness to support others demonstrate the values we want to see throughout our school community.

Our Head Students are outstanding role models who have the opportunity to take on one of the most important student leadership roles within our school community.

Students who wish to become Head Students are required to complete an application process and take part in a formal interview. This provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to the school, their leadership qualities and their vision for how they can make a positive contribution to school life.

Once appointed, our Head Students take on a range of responsibilities across the school. They play an important role in supporting and representing the school at events, welcoming visitors and helping to ensure that key school occasions are successful. They also work closely with our School Councils, helping to ensure that student voice is heard and that students have meaningful opportunities to contribute to school life.

Our Head Students also take a leading role in fundraising initiatives, supporting charitable causes and encouraging others to get involved. Through these opportunities, they develop confidence, communication, organisation and teamwork skills, while learning how to lead with purpose and responsibility.

The role is not simply about representing the school; it is about developing the next generation of young leaders. Our Head Students are encouraged to take initiative, embrace new challenges and reflect on their own leadership journey, building skills and experiences that will support them both during their time at Springwood and beyond.

We are proud of the commitment, maturity and enthusiasm our Head Students demonstrate as they lead by example and make a positive difference to our school community.

At Springwood High School, we believe that students should have a genuine voice in shaping their school and their wider community. Our five School Councils provide students with the opportunity to share their ideas, take action and make a positive difference.

Each council has student representatives from every year group, ensuring that the views and experiences of students across the school are represented. Every council has a clear focus and purpose, allowing students to get involved in areas that matter to them while developing important skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving and leadership.

Environment Council 

Our Environment Council looks beyond the school gates, considering how we can make a positive impact on our school, our local community, nationally and across the globe. Students may get involved in projects such as rewilding, litter picking, reducing waste, exploring greener packaging and organising beach clean-ups. The council encourages us all to think about the impact of our choices and what we can do to create a more sustainable future.

Student Wellbeing Council

The Student Wellbeing Council focuses on looking after ourselves and looking after each other. Students explore issues around mental and physical health, positive relationships, anti-bullying and creating a supportive school community. They also help to organise awareness events and campaigns, encouraging everyone to think about their own wellbeing and how they can support those around them.

Equality and Diversity Council

Our Equality and Diversity Council is about being the change you want to see. Students work to ensure that Springwood is an inclusive and welcoming place where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their sexuality, ethnicity, gender or individual background and experiences. The council promotes understanding, celebrates diversity and helps to challenge attitudes and behaviours that can prevent others from feeling that they belong.

Embracing School Life Council

The Embracing School Life Council is all about making the most of everything Springwood has to offer. Students help to establish and run clubs, encourage others to get involved in school activities and support staff with inter-house competitions and events. The council aims to create opportunities for students to discover new interests, develop friendships and feel a strong sense of belonging within the school community.

Teaching and Learning Council

The Teaching and Learning Council gives students an opportunity to have a voice in the classroom. Students consider what helps them to learn effectively and share ideas about how teaching and learning at Springwood can continue to develop. By listening to students' experiences and perspectives, the council helps staff understand what works well and where improvements could be made.

Our School Councils are about more than simply sharing ideas. They give students the opportunity to take action, lead change and see the impact of their contributions. With representatives from every year group, our councils ensure that student voice is heard across the whole school community.

Through these councils, students develop confidence and leadership skills while helping to shape the school they are proud to be part of.
