Springwood dancers inspire at Festival

Springwood dancers took to their stage to inspire younger pupils at the SSP (Schools Sport Partnership) Dance Festival on 18 June.

The event, which takes place twice a year, was held at the Corn Exchange in King’s Lynn and was open to primary school children across West Norfolk.

The theme this time was Disney, and Olivia Gould and Robyn Marchetti, who are both in Year 9 at our school, performed a duet that they had choreographed themselves to the music from the Disneyland Paris Dream Shine Brighter Parade.

“The event takes place twice a year – one in March and one in June,” said Dawn Paulo, Head of Music at our school, which is a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust.

“Each year Springwood is invited to perform as part of the opening inspirational act for both the morning and the afternoon show.

“The girls represented Springwood brilliantly with their professionalism and excellent dancing. The girls were even invited on stage at the end to lead approximately 50 primary school students in an improvisational dance finale.”

It was the sixth time that students from our school had been asked to open the show, which included performances from fellow WNAT members Heacham Infant School and Walpole Cross Keys Primary.

Thirteen Year 2 and 3 pupils from Walpole Cross Keys took part, performing a routine to ‘A Friend Like Me’ from Aladdin, which had been choreographed for them by WNAT Dance Coach Kate Whyborn.

“The children were nervous and excited, but they thoroughly enjoyed the experience,” said Class Teacher Carol Jones, who was there to support the group.

“Events like this are really important, as they give the children confidence performing in front of an audience. It involves them in a group, and gives them the opportunity to perform on stage.”
