Packed house for our Christmas Concert
Traditional Christmas carols joined popular festive songs for a special evening at our school on Tuesday.
The Christmas Concert featured musicians and vocalists entertaining parents, carers and friends who packed the Peter Hopkins Hall for a programme of entertainment at the end of term.
Director of Music Robin Norman said: “The musicians of Springwood helped get everyone in the Christmas mood with their annual Christmas Concert. Featuring Big Band, Sinfonia, two Rock Bands, Choirs and Concert Band, a capacity full house audience was entertained with favourites such as Step Into Christmas as well as music from Frozen and Home Alone. This was topped off with the Concert Band being joined by Cantabene and the Year 7 Choir in a grand 'massed' finale featuring the music from Polar Express.”
Writing in the programme notes, Mr Norman added that Christmas was one of his favourite times of the year, and he had fond memories of listening to the Top 40 on the radio and discovering who had achieved the coveted Christmas Number One.
“This evening marks the end of another busy term at Springwood and in the music department,” he said.
“The biggest thanks must go to the wonderful musical students of Springwood who continue to go above and beyond for their music, attending rehearsals and practising hard around the daily work that they have at school. On behalf of everyone here at Springwood I would like to thank you.”
Our school’s Big Band performance included White Christmas white the Concert Band presented the Ukrainian Bell Carol and Into the Unknown (from the film Frozen) among its numbers.
Choir members of Cantabene also took part and gave renditions of Deck the Halls, We Wish You the Merriest and Christmas Lullaby before a massed choir rounded-off the evening with a sing along with the audience encouraged to join-in with Merry Christmas Everyone.
